THE POTENCY OF THE SPIRITUAL REALM (I)

NUMBERS 22:6–7 “Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed. And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.”

KEYWORD: The spiritual realm is active. The spiritual realm is potent. And you cannot afford to be spiritually weak AND lazy.

After reading our opening scripture, the question that must be asked is this: Can anyone still boldly claim that the spiritual realm has no relevance or influence on the physical realm? A simple journey through Numbers 22 will immediately silence such ignorance. It becomes clear that life is not governed merely by what we see with our natural eyes. There are forces, laws, operations, decisions, and transactions taking place in the unseen realm that eventually manifest in the physical. This is why scripture constantly teaches us to walk by the Spirit, to be spiritually awake, and to refuse to live carelessly or blindly. Many things happening around you are not merely “coincidences”. They often have spiritual roots, some divine, some demonic. This is why you cannot afford to rush into decisions, locations, relationships, partnerships, or opportunities without the leading of the Holy Spirit. In Balaam’s story, we see a man, Balak, who understood spiritual dynamics far more than many people today. While smiling publicly and presenting himself as a king dealing with a political threat, behind the scenes he was raising altars, summoning diviners, and manipulating the spiritual atmosphere to weaken Israel.
Notice something profound: Balak was not new to this strategy. He knew what offerings to prepare. He understood the rituals required. He had used this method before and conquered other nations. Now, confronted with Israel, whose testimonies were shaking entire territories, he knew the only way to attack them successfully was to first tamper with their spiritual covering. Before launching a physical war, he attempted to secure a spiritual victory.

That alone should open your eyes. Even though he failed, because no enchantment could stand against God’s covenant, his attempt shows a truth too many Christians ignore: the spiritual realm is real. The spiritual realm is active. The spiritual realm is potent. And you cannot afford to be spiritually weak, lazy, or ignorant in a world where others are operating ancient altars, invoking spirits, raising divinations, and consulting powers day and night. You must stay spiritually alert. You must stay in communion with the Holy Spirit. You must stay covered, prayed up, and discerning. Walk wisely. Walk spiritually. Shalom!

PRAYER:
Father, thank You for opening my eyes to understand the potency of the spiritual realm. Teach me to be spiritually alert, sensitive, and submitted to Your Spirit at all times. I receive grace to walk in discernment, to stay aligned with Your will, and to overcome every plan of darkness. Strengthen my spirit and keep me under Your covering always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
