1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7: “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
KEYWORD: Meekness opens your eyes to what God wants you to know and understand about love.
Being meek does not mean allowing people to walk over you. True meekness is the ability to see people the way God sees them and to understand that there is no need to engage in needless conflicts or struggles. We, all made from dust, can vanish in an instant if God so wills. Yet, in His nature, God displays meekness through the love He showed for us. He chose to lay down His Son’s life so that you and I could be saved. This overwhelming expression of meekness, which is deeply intertwined with selflessness, draws all men to Him. It is no surprise that Jesus taught the multitude: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
This scripture comes alive when we realize that meekness is not weakness. If, as Christians, we despise or look down on meekness or selflessness, it is because we have not yet grasped God’s nature and the motivation behind His sacrifice. Until you understand meekness, you cannot fully comprehend the essence of love. Meekness opens your eyes to what God wants you to know and understand about love. Here is one truth to hold close: love is jealous, but not in a tyrannical way—it is protective. It does not give up what is precious easily.
Many have never truly experienced the depth of God’s love or understood how He desires it to be expressed toward others. His love is jealous because He knows what we can become in Him, yet He never forces it upon us. Instead, He draws us near and reveals how protective, nurturing, and empowering His love truly is. This love teaches, equips, guides, and strengthens us to overcome all things. Today, take time to examine your heart and see whether Christ’s love is actively at work in how you relate with those around you. Where it falls short, yield to His correction and grace, and allow His love to be perfected in you. Shalom.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for revealing to me today the truth of meekness. My eyes are opened to see how Your selflessness made it possible for me to stand boldly before Your throne of grace and mercy. Help me to extend the same love and humility to everyone around me in Jesus’ name. Amen.
