1 SAMUEL 5:1–3 “And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod. When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.”

KEYWORD: God does not share His glory with any other. He is not one god among many. He is the God of heaven and earth.

There is a costly error many make across the world today: the assumption that our God, whom we read about in the Bible, is the same as the idols of men. They imagine that all deities are simply different names and forms of the same spiritual force. Nothing could be further from the truth. God is not one among many. He is the Only True God. He is the Creator; idols are the creations of men.
To compare Him with an idol is like comparing the sun to a candle. They do not belong in the same conversation. God is not carved from wood or stone. He is not fashioned by craftsmen. He is not carried about or helped to stand upright. He does not need protection. He alone is the Almighty God, eternal, self-existent, sovereign, and supreme.
In our opening scripture, the Philistines made this same mistake. After defeating Israel in battle, they carried away the Ark of the Covenant, thinking they had also conquered Israel’s God. What ignorance! They placed the ark beside Dagon, their idol, imagining that the Almighty would share space with the powerless work of men’s hands. But in the morning, they met a sight that shook them: Dagon was lying face down before the ark of the Lord. The idol had bowed.
Still, they did not understand. They carried Dagon, lifted him up, and set him back in place. What a mockery—a “god” that must be helped to stand! But the next morning, Dagon was not only fallen again, but his head and hands were also cut off. The presence of God had made a declaration: No idol stands before Him. Every knee must bow. Every authority must submit.

This story reveals something profound: God does not share His glory with any other. He is not one god among many. He is the God of heaven and earth, the Lord of glory, the consuming fire. Whenever His presence is revealed, every pretense of power collapses. Every false god is exposed. Every idol falls. Let this truth settle deeply within you today: whether philosophical idols, cultural idols, religious idols, or idols of the heart, none can stand before Him. Our God is incomparable. He is mighty, holy, living, and eternal. He reigns alone. Glory to God!

PRAYER:
Father, I thank You because You alone are God. You are the Almighty and the Only True God. I refuse to compare You with anything that is man-made or powerless. Let Your presence fill my life, my home, and every place connected to me. Cause every idol, every false confidence, and every deception to bow before Your glory. In Jesus’ mighty Name, Amen.
