PASTOR MARTINS OMONUA
1 Thessalonians 1:5 (MSB) “When the messages we preached came to you, it wasn’t just words. Something happened in you. The Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions. You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you.”
KEYWORD: Conviction brings you to strong beliefs that no one or circumstances can change, especially when it’s truth that is backed up with scriptures.
Conviction is a firmly held belief—the state of being wholly convinced by findings proved to be true. The gospel was given to us by men who were fully convinced about the truth they found out; some had personal encounters with the Lord that they gave up everything for the gospel; some laid their lives down for the gospel also. Conviction brings you to strong beliefs that no one or circumstances can change easily, especially when it’s truth that is backed up with scriptures. How can one come to this point as a Christian? You must believe in Jesus Christ. When you believe in Jesus Christ, you must believe with all your heart. Some think they believe in Jesus Christ, but in an actual sense they don’t. In believing in Jesus Christ, you must accept the truth of the gospel He came to preach and our righteousness in Him. When it comes to the gospel of our Lord Jesus, your personal opinion, belief or reasons are inconsequential; the gospel is absolutely true. The truth of God’s Word is not given to the church or us to debate or argue but to accept as the only truth.
Jesus, through the scriptures, declared who He is in John 14:6: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” If Jesus, who has a mind of His own, couldn’t say anything except what He hears the Father say and He takes it as truth, then we should learn from Him. Jesus left no room for debate, doubt, argument, or speculation because He is truth. He declared the Father’s words, and the Father’s words are true and absolute. The reason we see a lot of arguments about the Word and Christian values in these last days is because men have not come to believe and accept certain truths as absolute, so you see personal opinions or reasoning without the Holy Spirit and the Word playing in their minds and as such take full control of their reasoning, belief, thought and action.
Acts 17:10-11: ” And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”The scripture commended the character of the Berean Christians more than the Thessalonians because of their readiness of heart to always receive and learn the truth. They personally searched the scriptures to confirm if what they heard was true, and when they saw the truth, conviction was birthed, and many believed in the gospel that was preached to them. This is why we always emphasize knowing the truth for yourself as a Christian, because when you know the truth, no matter who you follow, you will not walk in error or confused. Fill your mind with the truth of God’s Word today and walk in that righteousness path you have in Christ and your life will be that of forward and upward path void of error and confusion. Hallelujah.
PRAYER:
Dear heavenly Father, from today I personally study the word of truth to bring my mind and spirit to a place of conviction that I am not tossed by the wind of doctrine but by Your truth which is deeply rooted in my heart, causing me to know what to do at every given time, in Jesus name. Amen.
FURTHER STUDY:
John 5:39
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
John 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
