MARK 11:25 “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
KEYWORD: True prayer aligns a man not only with God’s promises, but also with God’s principles.
When a body of believers lacks unity of heart and purpose, even in the midst of diverse views, it can limit the extent to which God moves among them. Scripture shows us that where there is unity, God commands blessing. But where there is strife, competition, and division, spiritual effectiveness is weakened, and the atmosphere becomes vulnerable to distractions and interference.
On a personal level, when a man says he is praying but continues to harbor bitterness, offense, or unforgiveness, his prayers are hindered. True prayer aligns a man not only with God’s promises, but also with God’s principles. You cannot seek God sincerely while resisting the very nature He is calling you to walk in.
The Scripture in Song of Solomon 2:15 says, “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines.” These “little foxes” often represent the subtle issues of the heart: offense, pride, resentment, that quietly disrupt our fellowship with God and affect the effectiveness of our prayers.
There is a dimension of fellowship with God where the Spirit continually searches and corrects the heart. When you truly and genuinely give yourself to prayer, you become more sensitive to these inner dealings. You may still feel hurt or offended, but the Spirit will not allow you to remain comfortable in it. Instead, He draws you toward forgiveness and alignment with God’s nature.
However, when prayer becomes a routine without engagement of the heart, its transforming power is not fully experienced. What should be a channel of renewal and strength can become mechanical if there is no sincerity and yieldedness.
A life of prayer, when done rightly, produces softness of heart, humility, and love. It compels you to release offenses and walk in forgiveness toward others; whether spouse, friends, or neighbors. As 1 Peter 3:7 reminds us, certain attitudes can hinder our prayers, which is why we must be intentional about guarding our hearts.
If you desire your prayers to be effective, then walk in forgiveness. Let your heart remain pure before God, and your prayer and fellowship with Him will remain unhindered. Glory to God!
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your Word that is influencing every aspect of my life: my character, my emotions, and my thoughts. Your Word and Your Spirit continually guide and correct me. Whenever the Holy Spirit checks my heart and reveals any trace of unrighteousness within me, I receive His correction and choose to let go, no matter how difficult it may be. Help me to put on the character of the Spirit and walk in love and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
