PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF THE WORLD

JEREMIAH 29:7 “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.”

KEYWORD: When men come under God’s influence, they become instruments for advancing His righteous purposes.

The society we live in is filled with unrest, chaos, and violence. We hear of wars and rumors of wars, destruction of lives and properties, and the prevalence of wickedness and injustice. As believers, we are not to fold our hands, observe helplessly, or adopt an “I don’t care” attitude simply because these crises have not personally affected us or our loved ones. A righteous man once said, “Evil prevails when good men do nothing.” Though the world is not our permanent home, God has entrusted us with the responsibility to stand in the gap through prayer, ensuring that His peace and righteousness are continually established and that every scheme of wickedness is resisted and thwarted.

Jesus has called us the salt of the earth. Salt imparts flavor and preserves; as believers, we give meaning and preservation to life itself. Therefore, we are to earnestly seek the peace of the universe, for in its peace lies our own peace and prosperity. When the world enjoys peace, the gospel can thrive, turning many to righteousness and establishing God’s will that all men be saved. Salvation breaks the hold of darkness over lives, for Satan often uses men to execute his evil agenda. When men come under God’s influence, they become instruments for advancing His righteous purposes.
This demonstrates that righteousness and peace are inseparable. As Isaiah 32:17 says: “…the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” As we pray for the peace of the world, we must also intercede for governments, leaders of nations, and men in positions of authority, that they may come under the influence of the Lord, the King of Peace. When the righteous occupy positions of leadership, nations rejoice, and godliness and peace flourish. Therefore, make it your duty to intercede for the peace of all nations in every prayer. Hallelujah!

PRAYER:
Thank You, King of glory, the God who rules the affairs of men. I pray for Your peace to reign upon the face of the earth and for Your supernatural intervention in our governments and in the lives of leaders. May Your will be done, and may Your peace prevail, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
1 TIMOTHY 2:1-3 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”
PSALM 122:6-9 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.”
