HEBREWS 11:13-15 “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.”
KEYWORD: The fulfilment of what the men and women of faith saw, what they believed, and what they lived for is tied to us walking faithfully in this same path.
Every time you read Hebrews 11, it hits you with a fresh wave of truth and spiritual insight. Take our opening scripture, for instance. These remarkable men and women of faith were said to have died in faith, not having received the promises in full. Yet, they were not discouraged. They saw those promises from afar, caught a glimpse of the glory to come, and were deeply persuaded. They embraced that revelation and chose to live as strangers and pilgrims here on earth.
It tells you that what they saw was far greater than anything this life could offer. God, in His mercy, opened their eyes to see the beauty and glory of eternity. That vision was enough to detach them from the earthly and anchor their lives to the eternal. The splendour God revealed to them caused them to drop all earthly attachments. They knew that if they had allowed their minds to dwell on their past lives—their former countries, former comforts, and former passions, they would have been tempted to turn back. But they didn’t.
Their steadfastness in treading the new path God marked out for them is the same standard God is calling us to today. The fulfilment of what they saw, what they believed, and what they lived for is tied to us walking faithfully in this same path. Their legacy of faith is perfected in our own obedience. So now the baton has been passed, will you run your own race with the same diligence and resolve? Will you lay aside every weight and push forward, knowing that their reward is tied to your faithfulness? It is your turn. Don’t fail the moment. Don’t fail your generation. Shalom!”
PRAYER:
Thank You, Jesus, for the privilege to be numbered among the faithful. I choose today to abandon the past and fully embrace the new path You’ve opened up for me. I receive strength to walk steadfastly and to fulfil all You’ve destined for me with joy and focus, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
