LUKE 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”
KEYWORD: Whenever you study the Bible, do not merely look for information. Look for Jesus. As you see Him in the pages of Scripture, your faith will grow, your understanding will deepen, and your life will be transformed.
The very first thing you must desire to see whenever you open the Scriptures is Jesus. This was the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, which was not far from Jerusalem. They were troubled, confused, and discouraged concerning the death of Jesus and the reports surrounding His resurrection. They had forgotten the words of the Master in John 2:19, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
As Jesus walked with them, He restrained their eyes from recognizing Him in His resurrected form. Rather than immediately revealing Himself, He began to expound the Scriptures to them. Luke 24:27 says, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.” This teaches us a profound truth. God wants us to discover Christ in the Scriptures. From Genesis to Revelation, the Word points us to Him.
In Genesis, we see shadows and pictures of Christ. When God instructed Abraham to offer Isaac, the son whom he loved, it painted a picture of the Father’s willingness to offer His only begotten Son for the salvation of mankind. In Exodus, we see Christ revealed through the Passover lamb and the blood placed upon the doorposts. Throughout the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms, the testimony of Jesus is revealed. This is why Jesus first opened the Scriptures before He opened their eyes. He wanted them to understand Him through the Word.
We see the same pattern with the Ethiopian eunuch. The Holy Spirit directed Philip to join himself to the man’s chariot because he did not understand what he was reading. When Philip discovered that he was reading from Isaiah’s prophecy concerning the suffering servant, Acts 8:35 says, “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.” The message of the Scriptures is Christ. The mission of the Church is Christ. The hope of mankind is Christ.

PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your Son through the Scriptures. Open my understanding daily that I may see Jesus more clearly in Your Word. Let every time I study the Bible bring me into a deeper knowledge of Christ and transform me into His image. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
