ACTS 1:14
“These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”

KEYWORD: A believer cannot live accurately without focus, and prayer is one of God’s greatest tools for developing and maintaining that focus.

The Greek word translated “one accord” is homothumadon, which means to be of one mind, one purpose, and one passion. One of the reasons the early apostles and believers remained focused was their commitment to praying together in unity. Prayer produces focus in the life of a believer, cutting off distractions and keeping the heart fixed on God.

When we talk about praying rightly, we mean praying according to the Word of God. Right prayer is prayer that is governed by God’s Word. As you pray with the Word, your heart remains fixed on God and your mind becomes established in His truth. A believer cannot live accurately without focus, and prayer is one of God’s greatest tools for developing and maintaining that focus.

Hebrews 5:7 tells us that during the days of His earthly ministry, Jesus offered prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to the One who was able to save Him from death. As He faced the suffering of the cross, He experienced deep agony, yet through prayer He remained fully surrendered to the Father’s will. The picture of the cross and all that it would accomplish remained before Him, and instead of turning away from His assignment, He chose complete obedience.

Although miracles accompanied His ministry, Jesus’ primary assignment was to accomplish God’s plan of redemption through His death and resurrection. In Luke 22:44, we see Him praying more earnestly until His sweat became like great drops of blood. As He prayed, angels were sent to strengthen Him, and His spirit was strengthened to endure the suffering, rejection, and separation He would experience as He bore the sins of the world.

Throughout the Scriptures, we see that prayer kept Jesus focused on the Father’s purpose. In the same way, when you develop a life of consistent prayer, your heart remains aligned with God’s will, distractions lose their grip over you, and you receive strength to finish the assignment God has given to you. Hallelujah!

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, I submit myself completely to Your will through prayer. Strengthen my heart to remain focused on Your purpose for my life. I reject every distraction that seeks to take me away from Your plan, and I receive grace to remain faithful until I finish my race in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
