PSALMS 51:6 “Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.”
KEYWORD: Whenever Satan seeks to draw you away from God’s Word, he is always attempting to reduce you from who God says you are to something less than God’s purpose for your life.
The Word of God is a mirror that shows us who we truly are. It also reveals who God is, His ways, His principles, and His will for our lives. Through the agency of the Holy Spirit, the Word guides us into all truth. One of the ways to examine your thought patterns and discern what kind of thoughts are developing within you is through the Word of God.
Thoughts come to the mind daily, and not every thought should be accepted. When a thought comes to you concerning a matter and your mind begins to reason upon it, there are questions you must ask yourself. What is this thought leading me to do? What does the Bible say concerning this matter? What is God’s truth about it?
Consider the conversation between Satan and Eve. What was the serpent’s dialogue leading her toward? It was leading her toward disobedience to God’s instruction. God had clearly commanded Adam and Eve concerning the tree, but Satan introduced a different narrative. The result was disobedience, and mankind suffered the consequences of that decision.
When a believer does not know the Word of God well enough, deception becomes easier. Satan often seeks to twist or pervert truth. If Eve had held firmly to what God had already said and to the reality of who she was in God, she would have recognized the deception.
GENESIS 3:4-5 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Notice the subtle deception. Satan attempted to convince them to pursue something they already possessed in relationship with God. Whenever Satan seeks to draw you away from God’s Word, he is always attempting to reduce you from who God says you are to something less than God’s purpose for your life.
Do not be tricked, deceived, manipulated, or drawn away from the truth. This is why it is very important for believers to know the Scriptures for themselves. A strong knowledge of God’s Word will preserve you from many errors and deceptions. 2 TIMOTHY 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Furthermore, thoughts that continually drive you into hopeless condemnation are not from God. The Holy Spirit convicts in order to restore, correct, and bring us back into fellowship with God. God’s love draws us toward repentance and transformation. Hallelujah!
Therefore, let the Word of God remain your measuring rod. Test every thought by Scripture. If it agrees with God’s truth, embrace it. If it contradicts God’s truth, reject it immediately. Shalom!
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the mirror of Your Word which reveals truth and gives me wisdom. Help me to examine every thought that comes into my mind through the light of Your Word. Grant me discernment to recognize deception and grace to walk continually in Your truth. I receive sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and a greater hunger for Your Word. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
