WHERE DOES GOD STAND IN YOUR HEART? (III)

PSALM 119:80–81 “Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed. My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.”

KEYWORD: Do not place God in a position where He must measure His words carefully before speaking to you.

If God truly stands as the most important person in your heart, there will be no fear about what may happen or what the future holds for you. Your confidence will rest in the assurance that He is in control of every detail of your life, and there will be a quiet certainty that you have entrusted your life to the right Person, because His judgments are just and His mercy is unending. His principles never change to please any man, and this guarantees that you can trust His Word with your life. Notice how close David’s heart was to God. Even when he erred, God was quick to send prophets to warn him and bring him back to the right path. Solomon, however, though he began with great wisdom, gradually turned away from the Lord. Throughout the later years of his reign, we do not see the same pattern of prophetic correction that repeatedly came to David. Why was this so?
King David’s final charge to Solomon was to treasure and obey the Word of God above all else. David understood that the Word of God alone has the power to reveal the hidden things in a man’s heart that must be dealt with if God is to truly reign as Lord over him. David knew there was safety in allowing God’s law to guide every step of life, so he urged Solomon to keep it before him continually and walk in obedience to it. Sadly, Solomon did not continue to obey God with a perfect heart. Over time, he allowed other influences and desires to occupy a place in his heart that belonged to God alone. This marked the beginning of his decline. In the end, despite all his wisdom, he came to realize that the pursuit of knowledge without a heart fully aligned with God cannot sustain a man. Wisdom alone is not enough if the heart drifts away from the Lord.

Where might you be missing it today while still feeling justified in keeping God out of certain areas of your life? Have you become wise in the affairs of the world yet remained careless concerning the things of the Spirit? It is time to return wholeheartedly to the Lord so that your end does not resemble that of King Saul, who valued the opinions of men above God’s clear instructions to him.

Allow God to be the Father who can both teach you and correct you freely when you stray. Do not place God in a position where He must measure His words carefully before speaking to you. Such distance will never work in your favor. Instead, open your heart completely so that His Word can guide, refine, and strengthen you at every step of your journey. Shalom!

PRAYER:
Lord, You are my Father. Speak to me whenever You must, without restraint and without concern for whether I may feel offended. My heart belongs to You today. Teach me what You will, and correct me whenever I err. I choose to keep Your Word before me always, and I ask that You guide my feet continually in the path of righteousness, in Jesus’ name.

FURTHER STUDY:
1 KINGS 2:1, 3 “Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying… And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself.”
2 SAMUEL 7:14–15 “I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.”
