PSALM 69:28 “Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.”

The Scriptures reveal that God keeps records. One of the most significant records mentioned in the Bible is the Book of Life. In the Old Testament, it is sometimes referred to as the Book of the Living, while in the New Testament we also find references to the Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life. What remains clear throughout Scripture is that God knows those who belong to Him and keeps record concerning them.
Exodus 32:32-33 says, “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” This passage shows us both the seriousness of sin and the mercy of God. Moses interceded for the people, pleading for God’s forgiveness on their behalf. It reminds us that God is not eager to judge but delights in showing mercy to those who turn to Him.
Throughout Scripture, we see that God weighs the actions of men. Daniel 5:27 says, “TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.” God examines the hearts and deeds of individuals and nations. He is righteous in all His judgments and patient toward mankind, giving opportunities for repentance and restoration.
The Book of Life reminds us that life itself is a gift from God and that every person is accountable to Him. It should move us to live with reverence, gratitude, and a desire to please the Lord. David understood this when he prayed concerning the wicked in Psalm 69:28. His prayer reflected a desire to see righteousness prevail and evil restrained.
As believers, our greatest joy should not merely be in earthly accomplishments but in knowing that our names are known before God. Jesus said in Luke 10:20 that we should rejoice because our names are written in heaven. Therefore, live each day with the consciousness of eternity. Serve the Lord faithfully, walk in obedience to His Word, and remain steadfast in the faith. There is no greater privilege than belonging to God and having your name written among His people. Shalom!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of life and for the privilege of being known by You. Help me to walk in righteousness, humility, and obedience to Your Word. Let my life bring glory to Your name, and grant me grace to remain faithful to the end. Thank You for Your mercy, love, and salvation through Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
